The Eastern Province Rugby Union (EPRU) has received a welcome financial boost as the union is busy turning its fortunes around. The Uitenhage-based company, Multisure, is backing the team taking part in the Supersport Challenge starting this weekend.

The financial details of the deal was not revealed. This current deal covers the newly formed Supersport Series.

Talks are ongoing with the EP Rugby Union with the hope that it can be extended to the Currie Cup. The sponsor is already involved with local rugby. They also back the Gardens Rugby club from Uitenhage.

“We had been observing EPRU over the years before we signed everything. It was easy but we have to give back to the community. Andre and his executives have done well over the years to make sure there is stability in EP Rugby. We want raw talent to be identified and perhaps develop rugby in the Eastern Cape,” says Denton Goodford who is the CEO of Multisure corporate.

EPRU president, Andre Rademan, says this is good for rugby in the Eastern Cape.

“This is good for rugby in the Eastern Cape. We knew when we came in that sponsorship will come but it was easy because we had no money in our bank accounts. We now we are making a profit and things are looking good going forward for our rugby,” says Rademan.

Eastern Province rugby is also engaging other corporates in the region about sponsorships.

“Players where happy to receive these great news to be honest and that is going to create a good wining culture for us and we look to improve every week to bring back more supporters,” says Chumani Booi who is the Head coach.

The EP side will take on the Free State Cheetahs on Sunday at Mossel Bay.
