The trial against the former Thulamela mayor and municipal manager accused in the VBS saga has been set for five days in October this year, in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Polokwane in Limpopo.

The court heard that eight state witnesses will testify for the defence in the corruption trial against Avhashoni Tshifhango and Hlengani Maluleke.

Tshifhango and Maluleke are facing corruption charges related to the R30 million that the municipality had invested in the now defunct VBS Mutual Bank.

The Thulamela Municipality however withdrew its investment before the mutual bank collapsed.

The pre-trial in the corruption case related to VBS saga against Tshifhango and Maluleke has concluded.

The trial has been set for between October 16th– 20th 2023.

Both lawyers representing Tshifhango and Maluleke told the court that they will have four witnesses each to testify for their defence.
