The Eastern Cape Liquor Board is calling on all tavern owners and liquor outlets to adhere to conditions of their liquor licences.

In a bid to root out irresponsible alcohol trading in the province, the provincial Liquor Board has introduced a WhatsApp number that people of the province will use to report instances of irresponsible trading in their respective areas.

Cases of irresponsible trading include, among other things, selling to underage people, trading beyond regulated trading hours, selling to pregnant women and playing loud music.

The liquor board is calling on people to report any violation by the liquor traders by sending a WhatsApp message to 076 403 6223.

“We have become very concerned about the certain liquor outlets that do not stick to their trading conditions, and we have realised that our people in the EC have sufficient platforms to report to us such cases hence we decided to introduce this number ,” explains Provincial Liquor Board spokesperson Mgwebi Msiya.
