Two people have been shot dead during a shootout with police in Hillcrest, Durban, on Friday. Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says the suspects were wanted by police in connection with a murder case.
“The tactically astute police officers spotted a vehicle which matched the description of the one the suspects were said to have been traveling in. With their blue lights on, police officers signaled for the suspects’ vehicle to stop. However, the suspects did not just stop. They got out of their vehicle and opened fire towards the police, and the men of law were left with no other alternative but to return fire. Two suspects sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were declared dead at the scene. No police officer was injured during the shootout. The suspects were wanted in connection with a case of double murder in which two men were shot and killed outside a tavern in Molweni this year.”
