DA might not achieve outright majority in Western Cape: Analyst

DA supporters may lose supporters to ActionSA

Political analyst and research fellow at the University of the Free State, Harlan Cloete, says the emergence of smaller parties in the Western Cape might prevent the Democratic Alliance (DA) from achieving an outright majority in the province in the upcoming elections.

This comes after ActionSA announced the party’s premier candidate in Manenberg on the Cape Flats.

Angela Sobey, who hails from Woodstock and lived in Manenberg for some time, will be the party’s premier candidate for the province.

Cloete says he believes the DA will lose support in the upcoming elections.

He says, “For this election, the DA may see their support dwindling because if you look at ActionSA they were not here at the last provincial and national elections and they naturally feed off the disgruntled DA voter. ActionSA, I believe, will definitely eat from the DA.”
