Cosatu has provided wheelchairs to the elderly and those with physical disabilities in Mpumalanga on Monday.

The trade union visited Lugugu Home Based Care Centre in eMalahleni as part of celebrating the Nelson Mandela centenary.

Union leaders also distributed blankets and food parcels to the elderly.

A jovial mood, the elderly and people with disabilities received much needed gifts. Wheelchairs, blankets and food parcels were distributed. All provided for by Cosatu in the name of Madiba.

Beneficiary Irene Rampedi says:”I am very grateful about what is happening here today, I now have wheels to move around. It’s an emotional day for me.”

This centre is home to about fifty people. They gather each day to exercise, socialise and have a meal.

Centre manager, Ntombi Masango says:”We will always be grateful of what Madiba did for us. He brought us freedom, that is why today we are getting social grants.”

Cosatu is hoping to extend a helping hand to other needy people.

More activities are expected to be held throughout the country and beyond as selfless acts for the needy continues, in lieu of Mandela Day.
