Cele says members of the public must be vigilant during the festive season.

Police Minister Bheki Cele,  together with a high level delegation including the National Commissioner of Police Khehla Sitole,  has paid a visit to the notorious KwaMashu township, north of Durban, where they have engaged with members of the community at the local police station, shopping mall and taxi rank.

The area is currently ranked amongst the most notorious for incidents of murder and hijacking.

This comes as part of an oversight visit to various clusters in the eThekwini Municipality on Friday to assess safety and security operations ahead of the New Year celebrations.

Cele says members of the public must be vigilant during the festive season.
