Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) leader, Mangosuthu Buthelezi, has called on law enforcement agencies to act swiftly against leaders who are implicated in corruption.

He says the lack of action is worrying, following the revelations of witnesses at the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture in Parktown, Johannesburg.

Buthelezi was speaking at an IFP rally in Bergville, KwaZulu-Natal  on Saturday ahead of a by-election on Wednesday.

“We should have had by now senior leaders being expelled, being prosecuted and put behind bars but instead, there is silence. All we hear are more promises and more slogans about growing South Africa, which is clearly in a crisis,” says Buthelezi.

The ward became vacant following the death of an African National Congress (ANC) council.

Buthelezi has urged community members to vote in the by-election.

“I want you to understand comrades, that this by-election is just as important as the May 8th elections. Don’t think that you don’t need to vote on Wednesday, because you’re voting next month, some people might have that idea. Wednesday’s by-elections can change things dramatically, because the balance of power in this municipality can change with just one seat,” says Buthelezi.
