Build One South Africa leader Mmusi Maimane has announced that his party will be on the ballot for the national and provincial elections this year.

He says despite the difficulties they have been presented with, they have prepared 140 000 signatures for the Electoral Commission (IEC) and have 120 000 candidates on all 19 lists ahead of the March 8 deadline.

Previously, Maimane had complained about what he termed the “unjustifiably high” cost of participating in the elections.

Meanwhile, party spokesperson Roger Solomons has bemoaned the difficulties faced by new parties trying to take part in the polls.

“I think it’s about R750 000 to register to contest both nationally and in all nine provinces. And once again, it makes it harder for newer parties. It’s not just about Build One South Africa…but also it’s about just fighting for the new parties.”
