Deputy President David Mabuza made a no-show at the government social mobilisation drive in Cape Town, despite the fact that he was billed to lead the campaign.

Mabuza is now acting President following the Presidency’s announcement last night that President Cyril Ramaphosa had tested positive for COVID-19 and had delegated powers to Mabuza for a week or so while he is under quarantine.

President Cyril Ramaphosa tests positive for COVID-19 and is receiving treatment for mild symptoms:

Herd immunity

Sports, Arts and Culture are some of the sectors feeling the pinch of the devastating impact of COVID-19.

As a result, authorities are encouraging the public, including sports lovers, to vaccinate in order for the country to reach herd immunity so that life could return to normal.

Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa says, “Nobody today will say there is no vaccination. Vaccine abounds … it’s waiting for you and I to ensure that we take that very important step and take the jab.”

Some heeded the call immediately and received their jabs.

There are over 27 million vaccines that have seen administered so far and the Western Cape Province has the highest percentage of people who have received the jab, followed by the Free State and Limpopo.

Authorities are urging the public to get the vaccine.

Deputy Minister of Health Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo  says, “It is in our hands to minimise the impact of this fourth wave which is mainly driven by this omicron variant by taking a jab and encouraging our family members and friends and colleagues to vaccinate in order to protect themselves.”

South Africa is in the grip of a fourth wave fueled by the Omicron virus.
