ANC seeks to mend relations with alliance partners

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The African National Congress is trying to mend relations with its alliance partners. President Cyril Ramaphosa will address  Congress of South African Trade Unions Central Executive Committee on Tuesday morning.

This seeks to consolidate relations and strengthen the alliance.

Relations between the ANC and its alliance partners deteriorated almost two years ago. For the first time in the history of this alliance, Cosatu, the South African Communist Party and South African National Civic Organisation have called for the removal of the ANC President.

They have accused then ANC President Jacob Zuma of failing to lead the alliance and of presiding over a corrupt state. Cosatu also barred the former ANC president from addressing its gatherings. It cancelled its 2017 May Day rally in the Free State when some members disrupted the event in protest against Zuma.

But the new ANC administration under Ramaphosa wants to see improved relations.
