A group of traditional leaders from the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality say they distance themselves from decisions taken at a meeting called by North-West Premier Supra Mahumapelo with their colleagues in Sun City last week.

Mahumapelo met members of the provincial House Of Traditional Leaders to discuss the ongoing violence that has engulfed the province. But the Ngaka group, led by Kgosi Victor Suping, say besides receiving short notice, they were expecting their union CONTRALESA to form part of the discussions.

Kgosi Suping says, however, remain concerned about the ongoing violent protests in the province

“We are very much concern about the happenings in and around our areas. Kgosi Montshioa’s community is being affected by the ongoing strike because people cannot go to work, as there are lootings there are assaults. Police do not rest because of this unrest. We are appealing to the power that will be to get rid of these situation.”

They say they won’t be dictated to on matters directly impacting their communities.

Meanwhile, hundreds of ANC members from the North West converged on Luthuli House in Johannesburg on Monday.  This in support of their embattled Premier Supra Mahumapelo.

In a show of solidarity, just days after the national government placed the North West Treasury and Health department under administration. Mahumapelo supporters took their fight to Luthuli House.

ANC member in the North West Dr Kenneth Kaunda region, Mlungisi Mathews says, “There are people who are being paid to cause the chaos in our province. Some of them they don’t know who is Supra. They don’t even have the membership of the anc. you ask them they won’t even tell you about Supra.”

They also oppose calls to disband some regional and branch structures, allegedly set up ahead of the December Nasrec conference.

The group demanded to meet the top six officials, there was no one at hand to receive their memorandum.

ANC General manager Febe Potgieter-Gqubule told the SABC it would form part of ongoing engagements in the province.
