ANC Limpopo to replace three mayors in three municipalities

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The ANC in Limpopo says it will replace three mayors in three municipalities. Twelve mayoral candidates have been interviewed as a reshuffle looms.

According to leaked information, the executive mayor of Vhembe District Municipality Dowelani Nenguda, executive mayor of Sekhukhune District Maleke Mokganyetji and the mayor of Makhado Municipality Samuel Munyai, will be removed from their positions.

They were appointed to lead the institutions on interim basis due to list disputes after the 2021 local government elections.

No changes are expected in the Collins Chabane Municipality even though interviews were held. Provincial ANC spokesperson Jimmy Machaka says the future of candidates who were interviewed will be decided by the party’s national officials soon.

“Post local government elections there were interim arrangements that were made in Vhembe District Municipality as well as Makhado Local Municipality last week Monday. There were interviews, the process is complete. What is now left is that a report has been sent to the national officials of the ANC whether the comrades that you’re speaking about are leaving or not is now up to the national officials who may receive a report as far as the interviews are concerned.”

One of the residents at Makhuvha village outside Thohoyandou, Ndamulelo Mulidzi, doesn’t believe that reshuffling of mayors will improve service delivery.

“What matters to me is service delivery. Like where I come from there is a shortage of water and is a basic service so regardless of who is the mayor who is not the mayor, I care about getting water. They just change people but the service is not there. I think there is so much infighting in political organisations instead of focusing on service delivery, people are focusing on their political battle.”
