Reading Time: 2 minutes

Result capturing is continuing in Limpopo, with 98% of the result slips thus far completed.

The African National Congress (ANC) is leading, with 68,56% and total control of 16  of  22 councils in the province thus far.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is in the second position, with 14% of the voter support, followed by the Democratic Alliance(DA) at 5.4%.

Electoral Commission( (IEC) provincial Electoral officer, Nkaro Mateta says there were delays in capturing results in the Ba-Phalaborwa and Thulamela municipalities in the Mopani and Vhembe district respectively.

“The following municipalities either have capacity problems, connectivity problems or infrastructure to carry elections. It’s Thulamela which is the biggest contributor to the outstanding results slips that still need to be scanned. Another one which is also quite rural is Fetakgomo Tubatse,” says Mateta.

The Independent Electoral Commission will announce the final results of the 2021 local government elections on Thursday evening:

Coalitions in Modimolle-Mookgphong Municipality

Political parties have expressed different views about the possibility of forming a coalition in the hung Modimolle-Mookgphong Municipality in Limpopo.

Although the African National Congress (ANC) has got 14 seats, it cannot govern alone. Democratic Alliance (DA), Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and FF-Plus have got 14 seats combined.

ANC provincial spokesperson Donald Selamolela says they are likely to find ways through negotiation.

“The ANC has got a majority party is just it doesn’t have the simple majority without other smaller parties we are at 50 per cent fourteen seats, they are at 50-percent with fourteen seats combine we will be assessing what is happening in terms of how we are going to be moved forward our national leadership are also engaged in a situation where they are guiding,” says Selamoela.
