‘An electrical fault led to IEC ROC power outage’

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Tshwane Emergency Services says an electrical fault led to the IEC centre in Pretoria being evacuated on Saturday.

Officials have disputed reports of a fire. Special votes are taking place this weekend, ahead of the main local government election day on Monday.

Some operations including scheduled broadcasts had to be moved to Auckland Park in haste.

Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson, Charles Mabaso says, “I can confirm that there was no fire at the IEC results centre. The only report that we received from our members is that an electric circuit on a DB BOX became faulty resulting on the power to be cut off. And the center had to be evacuated to give the technicians more time to fix the electrical problem.”
