Jam-packed weekend with PSL matches

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Absa Premiership log will aim to extend their lead at the top of the Absa Premiership log this weekend when they take on Baroka FC. Sundowns can expect a tough match against a side that is fighting to secure a top Eight finish.

Orlando Pirates are proving to be strong challengers for the league title – this despite down playing their chances. It is the reason why Sundowns cannot afford to drop points in their remaining six matches.

They have a tight schedule with the Nedbank Cup and CAF Champions League fixtures are to play. Games are coming in thick and fast. It is about winning at all cost – even if they have to do it ugly.

“We have been in that situation before where we have played many games. Many people have complained about fatigue, but it’s all in the mind. We have a strong technical team who are managing our legs very well and we are cautious of the level of games we are playing. They all need high intensity but we are ready for the action,” said Sundown’s player Tiyani Mabunda.

Another match on Sunday will see Bloemfontein Celtic take on Amazulu. Celtic come off a defeat to Pirates while Amazulu will be confident following their last game against Ajax Cape Town. Both teams are still in with a chance to make the top Eight.

“You win one you win two you are somewhere else you lose one you lose two you are somewhere else and for us that’s not the position we want to be in we want to try and be as high as we can with the quality we have I think we can do it in a few more game then we can see where we go from there,”said Amazulu coach, Cavin Johnson.

Polokwane City travel to Platinum Stars on Saturday.

City might be 12 points clear of bottom of the log Stars, but they are definitely not safe from the relegation zone. Just like Platinum, they will be in desperate search of maximum points.

They come off a win against SuperSport United midweek, but they will be in for another tough affair against a side that is yet to win a league game in 2018.

Free State Stars will be looking to move back into the top three when they take on Golden Arrows. Their loss to Kaizer Chiefs saw the Luc Emayael’s team drop to fifth on the standings.

On the other hand, Arrows’ confidence will be boosted following their one-nil win over Cape Town City on Wednesday.

One of the most anticipated matches will be Maritzburg United at home against Cape Town City.
Both teams have an objective to finish in the top three.

The two need to redeem themselves following their losses in their previous matches.

Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa United is another fascinating encounter. Amakhosi retained their slim hopes of catching front-runners Sundowns and Orlando Pirates with their last win against Free State Stars.

Chippa on the other hand will be out to improve on their recent performances.
