Former Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown has resigned as African National Congress (ANC) member of Parliament (MP). A statement was issued by the Office of the ANC Chief Whip, Jackson Mthembu, on Thursday.
Brown joined the National Assembly in 2014 and had previously served as a member of the Western Cape Provincial Legislature in various capacities from 1994 until 2014.
She has expressed her gratitude in having served the people of South Africa and thanked the ANC for having given her the opportunity to do so.
Brown was axed at Public Enterprises and replaced with Pravin Gordhan in the recent cabinet reshuffle.
Earlier, Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s report found that as Public Enterprises Minister, Brown violated the Executive Ethics Code.
Mkhwebane investigated Brown to establish when she deliberately or inadvertently misled Parliament in a written reply when she claimed ignorance of contracts of engagement between Eskom and Trillian Capital. The Public Protector found that she has misled Parliament as the contracts were already concluded.
Mkhwebane wants President Cyril Ramphosa to take action against Brown within 14 days, for violating the Executive Code of Ethics.
Brown has denied any wrongdoing saying she is seeking legal advice.
