Ramaphosa emphasizes competency in cadre deployment implementation

Reading Time: 2 minutes

African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa has emphasized competency and merit in the implementation of his party’s cadre deployment policy.

Recently the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the African National Congress battled it out in the courts over the application of the policy in appointment of heads of some state owned entities.

The official opposition said the ANC policy had aided State Capture.

But Ramaphosa says they will not abandon it.

“As we move forward, we are going to make sure that we deploy comrades who are capable. Our cadre deployment policy is about appointing suitable and qualified people who share our transformation vision.”

“We will make sure that our cadre development policy ensures that the policies and the vision of the ANC, are followed as mandated by the Constitution of the ANC as well as the Constitution of the republic,” adds Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa calls on the DA to release its own cadre deployment records

Meanwhile, DA MP and Shadow Minister of Public Service and Administration, Leon Schriber, has expressed shock at Ramaphosa’s defence of the party’s cadre deployment policy.

He was reacting to Ramaphosa’s utterances that the party will not abandon the policy at the Manifesto launch in Durban yesterday.

Schriber says this validates the DA’s case.

“When the President says that they will continue to appoint people aligned to the ANC then he demonstrates exactly the DA’s case around this matter, that we don’t need people who are there to serve political parties whether it is the ANC, the DA or any other party.”

“What we need is skilled people who are appointed [on] merit and transparent process. Because that’s the only way we will uncapture the state and start to improve service delivery,” explains Schriber.
