South Africa records 1 662 COVID-19 new cases, 63 deaths on Sunday

The South African Health Department has reported that the cumulative number of detected COVID-19 cases now stands at 703 793 with 1 662 new cases identified since the last report.

The increasing number of tests conducted to date is at 4 549 478 with 21 337 new tests conducted since the last report.

The department regrettably reported 63 more COVID-19 related deaths: nine from Eastern Cape and 54 from KwaZulu Natal. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 18 471.

Of the deaths reported on Sunday, none were reported to have occurred in the past 24h-48 hours.

The department extends condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thanks the healthcare workers that treated the deceased patients.

The recoveries now stand at 634 543 which translates to a recovery rate of 90%.
