SA motorists brace themselves for fuel hike

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Motorists are urged to fill up on Tuesday as the price of fuel is set to increase significantly.

Petrol will go up by as much as 72 cents per litre for 95 octanes, 69 cents a litre for 93 octane and diesel will go up by 65 cents.

Illuminating paraffin will drop by six cents per litre and LP gas will increase by 29 cents per kilogramme.

The Energy department’s Robert Maake explains some of the reasons for the increases.

“The main reason for this adjustment is the inclusion of the fuel levy in the road accident fund that is 62 cents per litre on both petrol and diesel and also the adjustment to the transport tariffs. These are the pipelines and transportation costs as well as the road transportation costs. We also have the decommissioning of the old pipeline called the Durban to Johannesburg pipeline. From the 31st of March this line will be out of service. “
