National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union(NEHAWU) has vowed to resume its strike at state mortuaries in Gauteng until the Department commits to its promises.

Forensic Medical Services Workers returned to work on Friday after the Labour Court in Johannesburg ordered that the matter be referred to the Bargaining council.

The week-long strike has left beareaved families frustrated as they were unable to bury their loved ones.

When workers went on strike last year they were promised training, and that they would be registered with the Health Professions Council – but this did not happen.

NEHAWU’s Provincial Deputy General secretary Gracia Rikhotso says they will be proceeding with the strike.

He says they respect the interdict by the court and have been requested to make representation as to why the interdict should be challenged.

“We will be meeting our legal department and will be making representation to court so that we are allowed to continue with our strike,” says Rikhotso.
