Many runners still hoping to compete in Comrades Marathon

With only 99 days left before this year’s Comrades Marathon, organisers say there are still many people hoping to enter the iconic race.

Comrades Marathon Association Chairperson Cheryl Winn says they have experienced an unprecedented demand, resulting in the entry quota being filled early.

Winn says often people register but end up not participating in the race. She appeals to anyone who knows they will not be able to participate to make their entry available to those who want to race.

Winn says the race will start in Pietermaritzburg and finish at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

“Which resulted in our entries selling out within three weeks, so which left out hundreds of runners very disappointed. And so, we’re issuing an appeal to those runners who were lucky to obtain an entry back in September and if they have changed their minds in the meantime or if they have sustained an injury or some other reason why they are not going to be able to compete on the 10 June to please, in the spirit of comrades, to make their entry available so that some other runners can achieve history.”
