KwaZulu-Natal has been praised as one of the country’s rural provinces that has shown the most progress in this year’s matric results.

The province achieved a 72.8% pass rate.

This includes the progressed learners.

The provincial results will be released at Durban’s International Convention Centre on Friday.

Delivering the national results, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshega says the improvement in the performance among rural provinces is a sign that key interventions are bearing fruit.

Meanwhile, one of South Africa’s top matric achievers Timera Naidoo from Port Shepstone Secondary School in southern KwaZulu-Natal says her hard work and dedication paid off.

The 18-year-old Naidoo, who plans to study medicine, has encouraged the class of 2018 to study with extra-ordinary commitment to get the top results.

“Well I am one of the top achievers in the country. It tells me that I am the cream as the minister put it and I have worked very hard to achieve these results. Do not stop believing in yourself, you can do whatever you set out to do. I was doing physical science. I want to go to UKZN to study medicine.”
