Metrorail says it is still gathering information about a train that caught fire at Cape Town Station this afternoon.
Several carriages caught alight, affecting operations on Platforms 15 and 16.
Fire and Rescue teams have contained the fire.
Cape Town Fire and Rescue spokesperson, Theo Layne, says other railway infrastructure has been destroyed. He says says no injuries have been reported at this stage.
Layne says four fire engines and two water tankers have been deployed to the scene.
“The City is currently dealing with a train fire at Cape Town Railway station. They have numerous carriages that are alight. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this stage.”
