Organisers of Black Monday in Cape Town say change cannot be realised if the problems on farms are not acknowledged. The Black Monday movement was initiated last year after the murder of Klapmuts farmer, Joubert Conradie.

It sparked nationwide protests. On Monday a small number of people gathered at the Cape Town stadium for a prayer meeting.

Organisers have condemned all the violence perpetrated against the vulnerable.

Retired police colonel, Johan Vorster, was among the participants. “We stand up against all farm murders, also the violence on farms and farm workers that are tortured, and any attack on a farm, but also in the Western Cape. We stand up against the murders in communities, on the Cape Flats innocent people are killed in the cross fire, children die.  Here in the Western Cape we stand up against that too.”
