The African Security Congress (ASC) has opened a case against the African National Congress (ANC) for allegedly vandalising its posters on the streets of East London and parts of Nelson Mandela Bay in the Eastern Cape.

The party alleges that its members saw people in ANC regalia damaging its posters at the weekend.

East London police have confirmed that a case has been opened at the Fleet Street Police Station.

ASC Provincial Secretary, Vuyo Nqantosi has accused the governing party of campaigning in bad faith.

“We are very worried about our posters that were vandalised by the ANC. It was our visibility to the voters. It was the only thing that we could lay our voters to vote for us, to vote African Security Congress. So, that is why we end up laying a charge. So we are very worried about what the ANC done to us and then we will sit a meeting to discuss about this thing because it is hurting us.”

ANC Spokesperson, Gift Ngqondi says they will investigate the matter.

“First of all, let’s condemn any action of thrashing the posters of political parties because in this country, we have fought so hard for the freedom of association, for all political players in this country to take part in any election. And if there are ANC supporters, who have been involved, we will make sure that we take decisive action against all those who are perpetrators … disgusting behaviour.”
