South African batsman, Aiden Markram, has been named stand-in captain for the remainder of the one-day international and T20 series against India. Markram will take over the reigns from Faf du Plessis, who will be out of action for three to six weeks with a finger injury.

Du Plessis picked up the injury in the first ODI against India in Durban on Thursday. Further assessments revealed a fracture, which will require a period of rest and rehabilitation.

India won the match by six wickets.

Du Plessis is expected to be ready for the upcoming test series against Australia. The series starts in Durban on the 1st of next month.

Markram captained the under 19 world cup winning South African side in 2014.
