As Zimbabwean workers join the rest of the world in commemorating International Workers Day, The Zimbabwe congress of Trade Unions says this election year it will make sure that a government that doesn’t love workers is also not loved by workers.
This year’s celebrations follow a doctors’ strike and an impasse which saw nurses at public hospitals approaching the High Court to seek nullification of a decision by the country’s Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga to expel them from their jobs for participating in a labor strike.
Although the nurses have withdrawn their court bid, teachers have also threatened to embark on a similar action and there are indications that they will be met with the same fate.
