Mugabe, Mnangagwa made contact – Chiwenga

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe and his axed Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa have made contact with each other. This according to military general Constantino Chiwenga.

Mnangagwa is expected back in Zimbabwe shortly and talks between the two are expected to continue. Chiwenga says they’re happy with the progress of “Operation Restore Legacy”.

“We further urge other political players including members of the ruling Zanu-PF, the veterans of the liberation struggle, opposition groups, students and our people in general to refrain from any action or activity that would threaten the peace, life and property. Students at the country’s various institutions, I encourage to become and to proceed with their educational programmes as scheduled.”

Meanwhile, ZANU-PF’s Chief Whip, Lovemore Matuke says 230 members attended this afternoon’s party caucus meeting. Matuke says of the 230 that attended, there was a 100-percent vote for the impeachment of President Robert Mugabe.

“We are supposed to have 235 in order to constitute two thirds majority which will allow the president to go and seems we have 230 we got a good promise a strong promise from our opposition parties also giving us 73 in support of the same cause so out of 350 members from both houses so we know very certain that the president is going to lose his job.”

Zimbabwean Ministers who will attend a cabinet meeting called by President Robert Mugabe tomorrow at State House, will be recalled from Parliament. That’s a resolution taken by ZANU-PF’s Central Committee. The party’s Chief Whip Paul Mangwana says they do not recognize any call made by Mugabe as he’s been removed as party president.
