Zambian High Commissioner, Emmanuel Mwamaba, has dismissed social media rumours that founding President Kenneth Kaunda has died.

The Zambian government announced on Wednesday that the 93-year-old statesman was admitted to hospital after he had complained about feeling week.

Twitter was abuzz on Thursday afternoon with numerous users sending messages of condolences to President Kenneth Kaunda‘s family and Zambian citizens.

However, High Commissioner Emmanuel Mwamba has poured cold water on the rumours, confirming that KK, as he is affectionately known, is alive.

He says a medical team had been deployed to Kaunda’s home on Wednesday after complaints that he was feeling weak.

He was then admitted to hospital where doctors carried out a comprehensive routine medical check-up.

Mwamba says the elderly statesman is stable enough to be discharged from hospital.

The Democratic Alliance had earlier sent a statement sending their condolence to Zambia. However, the party has now retracted the statement and apologised.
