Reading Time: < 1 minute

Social networks, WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook have all gone down in a major global outage.

The three applications that are all owned by Facebook, and run on shared infrastructure, ground to a halt shortly before 5pm local time. When trying to log on to the applications, users are shown an error page indicating that the browser cannot connect.

WhatsApp administration, posted on Twitter a short while ago saying, it’s aware that some users are experiencing issues at the moment.

It indicated work is under way to restore the services and will send an update on Twitter as soon as possible.

Arthur Goldstuck on the global outage:

Facebook is often mum about the causes of its technological challenges.

In 2019, the company that suffered a big outage, however, said, the problem was triggered during routine maintenance operations. While technicians work to get the applications up and running, millions of users globally are without social media communication.
