Western Cape public health facilities welcome over 200 Christmas babies

Two hundred and-one babies were born on Christmas Day in the Western Cape at public health facilities.

Provincial Health Minister Nomafrench Mbombo says 117 little boys were born and 84 little girls.

The first four Christmas babies were born in close succession. The first baby girl was born at Mossel Bay Hospital five minutes after midnight, a boy and a girl were born 20 minutes after midnight at Mitchell’s Plain Community Health Centre.

The fourth baby, a girl, was born at the Mowbray Maternity Hospital 28 minutes after midnight. Minister Mbombo has congratulated all the new mother’s on their bundles of joy.

The Department says they were not able to release the number of Christmas babies born on the day due to pressure on facilities because of the fourth wave of the Covid-19
