Union to take Greyhound to court to stop auction of assets

The Democratised Transport, Logistics, and Allied Workers’ Union (Detawu) says they will be taking long-distance luxury bus service Greyhound to court.

This is after the company announced it will be auctioning its fleet next month. Greyhound will be auctioning 66 buses, some of its trailers, and high-quality spares.

The Flagship long-distance luxury bus service ceased operations in February this year citing bad trading conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown restrictions.

Over 1000 employees working for both Greyhound and Citiliner buses were retrenched as a result.

However, Detawu says they will be taking the company to court to stop the auctioning process.

“We are aware Greyhound wants to sell their couches through auction. However, as we have not moved from our initial position and we have currently taken the company to court and we are waiting for the court date,” says Detawu spokesperson, Nontembeko Luzipo.
