Two police vehicles set alight in Botrivier, W Cape

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Two police vehicles have apparently been set alight in the Botrivier area in the Overberg as violent protests continue.

Earlier in the week angry residents torched a municipal building and burnt a number of vehicles.

The residents are reportedly angry over the removal of informal structures from a piece of land earmarked for RDP housing.

Eight people that were arrested have been charged with public violence and are expected to appear in the Caledon Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Western Cape Traffic Chief, Kenny Africa says the N-2 at Botrivier is closed in both directions due to the protest, the stoning of vehicles and burning of tyres.

He says: “We will keep the N-2 closed until further notice.”
