The promising rugby career of Springbok wing Aphiwe Dyantyi has taken a severe knock. The 25-year-old recently tested positive for the use of a banned substance, but requested his B sample also be tested.

Not unexpectedly, his B sample confirmed the findings of the A sample and two banned substances, metandienone and methyltestosterone, were found in both samples.

Dyantyi has now been formally charged with a doping offence for the use of multiple anabolic steroids and faces a minimum four year suspension.

The 2018 World Rugby Breakthrough Player of the Year can now admit to the charge and except an appropriate sanction or submit a plea for consideration of a reduced sanction by providing mitigating circumstances.
