South Africa’s cumulative number of COVID-19 cases now stands at 144 264. The Health Department has also reported 73 new COVID-19 related deaths, bringing the total to 2 529.
Recoveries stand at 70 614. Close to 1.6 million tests have been carried out.
The Western Cape still has the most confirmed cases with 61 375, with Gauteng’s figures rapidly increasing with 39 841.
Earlier, the Department of Health said the rapid increase in Gauteng’s cases will soon make it the epicentre of the virus.
