Friends, family and colleagues will pay their last respects to SABC video journalist Thabo Katsande at his hometown of QwaQwa in Free State on Saturday.
Katsande, who worked at the SABC’s Bloemfontein office since 2015, died in a Pretoria hospital from a heart condition last week Friday.
This week during his memorial service, he was remembered as a social activist.
During his illustrious career, “Moruti”, as Katsande was fondly known, covered news for both radio and TV, and also presented reggae and current affairs shows on Lesedi FM.
Katsande was one of the recipients of the regional leg of the 2020 Vodacom Journalist of the Year Awards.
At Katsande’s memorial service, Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela said his death had left a void in developmental journalism.
