Worker’s unions at the SABC say they are hoping to gather support from both freelancers and middle management for the strike action on Thursday.
Scores of SABC employees affiliated to trade Unions Communications Workers Union (CWU) and the Broadcasting, Electronic, Media & Allied Workers Union, (Bemawu) have downed tools, demanding a 10% salary increase instead of the 4.5% offered by the employer.
CWU’s Aubrey Tshabalala says they will stop at nothing until their demands are met.
SABC board chairperson Bongumusa Makhathani says plans are in place to ensure that it’s broadcasting of the ANC elective conference and all other broadcasts are not compromised.
