SA will look into other trade markets to replace Israel: Pandor

International Relations Minister Naledi Pandor says South Africa will look into other markets to replace Israeli markets.

This comes in the aftermath of South Africa’s case against the state of Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) last week.

The tension comes after South Africa denounced the Israeli military’s operation in Gaza.

Briefing the media in Pretoria on Wednesday, Pandor said the concern of the country’s national interest must not make the country a partner to atrocities. “Let’s look at other trade partners, let’s look at East Asia for an example and use it as a platform for expanding trade.”

On African continental matters, Pandor reports that President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to chair a high-level meeting of a committee of five to review and seek political guidance on South Sudan during the African Union (AU) Annual Meeting.

She says there is a task team established to mediate in South Sudan. The team will be led by South Africa’s special envoy to South Sudan, Deputy President Paul Mashatile.

Pandor says a resolution to end the conflict in that country will also be revitalised.
