SA records 18 762 new COVID-19 cases, Gauteng still leads the pack

South Africa has recorded 18 762 new COVID-19 cases. This brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 1 895 905.  The Gauteng province accounts for the majority of new infections, with 11 777 new cases.

The province updated the media regarding its strategy on combating the coronavirus:

It is followed by the Western Cape which accounts for 9% of the cases. This increase represents a 25.5 % positivity rate.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases has also reported a further 215 COVID-19-related deaths, bringing the total fatalities to 59 621.

The total number of tests is 12 842 76, with 606 hospital admissions reported in the past 24 hours.
