Rhino poaching kingpin, co-accused back in court

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Joseph “Big Joe” Nyalunga, the alleged kingpin in rhino poaching, and his co-accused are scheduled to appear in the Mpumalanga High Court in Mbombela today.

Judgment is expected on their recent application to have the prosecutor removed from the case.

Last week, their defence advocate argued that the prosecutor lacked the authority to handle the case since he is based in the Gauteng province.

Nyalunga and his co-accused are facing a total of forty rhino poaching-related charges, spanning from 2017 to 2019 in the Kruger National Park.

The co-accused include former Skukuza police station commander Phineas Lubisi, Constable Themsile Mhlanga and Rachel Qwebane.

All suspects are currently out on warning.
