The Proteas have won the first in a series of three ODI matches against Zimbabwe by five wickets in Kimberley.

The Proteas won the toss earlier on Sunday and decided to put the visitors in to bat.

Despite restricting Zimbabwe to 117 all out in their innings, the Proteas looked to have made heavy work of reaching the total after collapsing to 96 for five by the 22nd over.

Heinrich Klaasen’s top score of 44 before he was caught off the bowling of Wellington Masakadza, ensured the Proteas would not suffer an upset.

Lungi Ngidi was the pick of the South African bowlers -taking three wickets at just over two runs an over.

The next clash at the Mangaung Oval on Wednesday is a must win match for Zimbabwe if they are to keep the three match series alive.
