The African National Congress says it hopes the newly appointed Chief Justice Raymond Zondo will continue to champion the transformation of the judiciary.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced Zondo’s appointment earlier this afternoon. Zondo replaces retired Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng.
Ramaphosa has also indicated his intention that once the new Chief Justice assumes office, he will nominate Justice Mandisa Maya for the position of Deputy Chief Justice.
ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe says they wish Zondo well in his new role.
