The Public Health Association of South Africa (PHASA) says it is in support of the National Health Insurance, following the approval of the NHI Bill by Parliament.
Health Minister, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, announced the Bill on Thursday.
President of the Association, Dr Andre Rose, says more discussions need to be held before the NHI can be implemented.
He adds the NHI will not immediately solve the problems within the public health system.
“We support the National Health Insurance. We, however, do think that some of the strategies and implementation around it still needs some rethinking and how it is that it is going to be implemented, especially around financing issues of the National Health Insurance. What we are interested in, is the Minister speaking about where the money is going to come from,” says Rose.
