People over 50 to register for COVID-19 vaccines from July

People between the ages of 50 and 59 will be able to register from the 1st of next month to receive their COVID-19 vaccinations and will be able to receive their vaccine from July 15.

The vaccination of people over the age of 60 who have not yet received their shots will continue.

The announcement was made by Acting Health Minister Mammoloko Kubayi-Ngubane during a virtual update on the vaccination rollout.

She also confirmed that more than 2 million people have now received either the one-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine or the two-dose Pfizer shot after another 115 000 vaccines were administered in the previous 24-hour reporting period.

These include 100 000 teachers and 480 000 healthcare workers who received the J&J vaccine.

“I’m pleased to also announce that from the 1st of July 2021 we will open registration for all citizens which are between the ages of 50 years and above and we will also schedule those vaccinations to begin on the 15th of July. I encourage all the citizens to register and get their vaccine.”
