Paarl Rocks crowned 2019 Mzansi Super League champions

Reading Time: 2 minutes

A sold out crowd at Boland Park in Paarl cheered on as the Paarl Rocks were crowned as the 2019 Mzansi Super League champions.

The Rocks comfortably beat the Tshwane Spartans by 8 wickets in last night’s final, needing just 14.2 overs to reach the target of 148.

Having been sent into bat, AB De Villiers top scored for the Spartans with a contribution of 51 as they were restricted to 147 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs.

In the chase, hometown hero Henry Davids came out guns-a-blazing for the Rocks, hitting the fastest 50 of the competition, off just 22 balls, finishing finally on 77 not out.

He was well supported by Dwaine Pretorius who hit 43 off just 20 balls. A proud Rocks captain Faf Du Plessis says he really enjoyed this competition.

Du Plessis feels the Rocks hit their best form near the end of the tournaments, but more importantly, for him there were contributions from every single squad member.

Man of the match Henry Davids says he felt great after his match-winning innings.
Spartans captain Heinrich Klaassen says it had not been an easy run in the pool stages, but once they qualified for the knockout stages they really wanted this final.

Klaassen felt his team was equipped to handle the conditions in Paarl but was just not up to it on the day.Report by Rob Delport
