Kunene concerned about Nhlanhla ‘Lux’ Dlamini’s safety behind bars

Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader Kenny Kunene says the manner in which Operation Dudula leader Nhlanhla ‘Lux’ Dlamini was arrested elicits concern about his safety behind bars.

Dlamini was arrested on Thursday and spent the weekend behind bars.

He is expected to appear in court on Monday for a bail application.

Dlamini faces charges of housebreaking, theft, and malicious damage to property after Operation Dudula members allegedly raided a house of a Soweto resident that locals had alleged was being used to sell drugs.

Kunene says Dlamini’s arrest was politically motivated.

“He was arrested by an army of police, in 30 vehicles, brandishing rifles, all of them. It shows that there’s a political motive behind his arrest. As you would remember, when Julius Malema, is to be arrested, he gets called and told that he must hand himself over to the police. The same as many other politicians and high-profile business people who fund political organisations.”

Below is the interview with Kenene:

A group of people from the Dudula Movement staged a protest outside the Johannesburg Central Police station where Dlamini is being held.

Dlamini’s Lawyer Ike Khumalo says, “If we apply the law, then he must be out because these charges are not charges that can warrant him not to get bail. He has verified his address, he’s got properties here so he’s not a flight risk. Even before he knew that there was a case against him, he kept on saying I’m here and I will present myself.”
