Investment and banking group Old Mutual will drop sponsorship of certain sporting events in 2019 including the iconic Comrades Marathon.
The Joberg2c, the longest mountain biking stage race in the country as well as the Wild Series, a prestigious 50 kilometre train run in the Royal Natal National Park, will also no longer be sponsored by the group.
The Soweto Marathon is the only race Old Mutual will sponsor. This is a major blow for the sport in the country.
But Athletics South Africa president, Aleck Skosana, says they’re talking to potential sponsors and the Comrades Marathon will take place next year.
