Reading Time: 2 minutes

Entries for the 2024 Comrades Marathon, the world’s most iconic ultramarathon, have officially opened.

The up run will start at the Durban City Hall and end at the Scottsville Racecourse in Pietermaritzburg on June 9, 2024.

The entry period will close on December 11, 2023, or once the entry cap of 23 000 runners has been reached.

The Comrades Marathon Runners Association (CMA) is encouraging runners to enter early to avoid disappointment.

The CMA’s Mqondisi Ngcobo says, “If we don’t receive the numbers we have capped, we will close on the 11th of December, but if we receive them before then, we will close our entries.”

Ngcobo also spoke about the introduction of the Comrades Marathon Runners Relief Fund, which allows up to 1 500 disadvantaged South African runners to apply for a reduced entry fee of 50 percent.

“The Comrades Marathon board took a decision to set aside a million rand to assist those athletes who may not afford the full R1,200,” says Ngcobo.

“It’s only open to South African entrants, and we are going to be assisting 1 500 athletes with 50 percent of their race entries, which is about R600.”
