The teacher, who is suspected to have separated the children, has been suspended

The School Governning Body of the Schweizer Reneke Laerskool has denied that there is racism at their school.

This follows a picture depicting Grade R learners divided by race in a classroom.

The teacher, Ellen Barkhuisen has been suspended by MEC, Sello Lehari, with immediate effect pending investigation into the matter.

Barkhuizen is reported to have taken the photo of the separated children, which is circulating on social media and has gone viral.

The School governing body(SGB) says they respect the decision of the MEC

SGB member Oloff van Niekerk says: “We respect his decision. Obviously it’s his perogative to make that decision. I can also say there’s definitely no racism in this school. We are a very proud school but we respect the MEC’s decision.”
